Opening May 2024, Heritage Sunset Retreat is a stunning beachfront escape made up of five private villas, located in Fukuchani, just 10 minutes from the lively coastal villages of Kendwa and Nungwi in northern Zanzibar.

Set within the heritage-protected area of the Old Portuguese Fort, this exclusive retreat invites guests to experience modern island living in a place steeped in history. Each villa is just a few steps from the soft white sands and overlooks Tumbatu Island, home to Zanzibar’s renowned turtle sanctuary.

Inside each private villa, guests will find a bright three air-conditioned bedrooms, and two modern bathrooms. The interiors blend natural tones with Swahili-inspired accents, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Large sliding doors open onto a private terrace and a private swimming pool, offering the perfect spot to relax and soak in the ocean breeze. Whether you’re traveling as a family, a group of friends, or as a couple seeking extra space and privacy, these villas are designed for comfort and connection.

Right by the beach, our newly opened grill restaurant serves fresh seafood, local specialties, and tropical cocktails — ideal for sunset dinners and long, lazy lunches under the palms.

The retreat is built beside the Old Fort of Fukuchani, a cultural landmark that adds both charm and historical depth to the experience.
